HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac University women's volleyball head coach Kris Czaplinski has announced the 31-match schedule for the upcoming 2015 season. The slate features 18 conference matchups via home-and-home series with each league member, as well as 13 non-conference contests involving three in-season tournaments.
"We are excited for the 2015 season," said Czaplinski, who enters his fourth year at the helm of the program. "We will face a lot of teams that we've played in the last few years, but also have some other teams that we haven't had a chance to play. Between non-conference and league play, our schedule presents a tough challenge for us but will adequately prepare us for the MAAC Tournament."
Quinnipiac opens the 2015 season on August 28-29 when the Bobcats travel to the Bryant Invitational for games against their former Northeast Conference rival Bulldogs as well as Holy Cross and MAAC foe Iona for non-conference tilts.
After the opening tournament, the team heads to Maryland for a three-game stint at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Invitational. The three-game tournament from Sept. 4-5 will feature contests against the Hawks, Delaware State and North Carolina A&T.
A battle at another former NEC foe in Fairleigh Dickinson falls on Sept. 9 before the UMass Lowell Invitational wraps up the Bobcats' in-season tournament slate from Sept. 11-12. In their third and final in-season tournament, Quinnipiac opens with their second non-conference costest against Holy Cross (Sept. 11) followed by matchups against San Jose State and the host Riverhawks on Sept. 12.
The all-important MAAC slate begins on Sept. 19-20 as the Bobcats start the conference schedule with their most grueling conference road games at Canisius and Niagara. The Golden Griffins were seeded No. 7 coming into the 2014 MAAC Tournament held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports but Canisius played their best games of the season down in Orlando as the team won four-of-five games to finish in 5th place.
The 2015 home-opener is next on tap for Quinnipiac, as the Bobcats welcome St. Francis Brooklyn to Burt Kahn Court for a midweek clash on Wednesday, Sept. 23 (7 PM). The month of September competition concludes at the 2013 MAAC Champions Fairfield University on Sept. 26.
October features five home games for the Bobcats – the first two taking place on the first weekend against Rider (Oct. 3) and St. Peter's (Oct. 4). A daunting stretch looms for the Bobcats from Oct. 10-14 as Quinnipiac will take on the 2014 MAAC Runner-Up Marist twice (Oct. 10 @ Marist, Oct. 14 vs. Marist) as well as a road battle at the defending MAAC Champion Siena (Oct. 11). After another road MAAC weekend at Iona (Oct. 17) and Manhattan (Oct. 18), the Bobcats close out the month with three of four games at home including matchups against Fairfield (Oct. 22), Siena (Oct. 28) and Niagara (Oct. 31). In addition to the MAAC play, the Bobcats will travel to UMass Lowell on Oct. 25 for a road non-conference game.
November kicks off with a pair of home games against Canisius on Nov. 1 and the team's final non-conference game against Hartford on Nov. 4. The Bobcats' contest against the Hawks concludes an extended homestand as Quinnipiac is set to play five of six games in Hamden as well as six of their final eight games of the 2015 regular season from the confines of Burt Kahn Court. A trip to Rider (Nov. 7) and St. Peter's (Nov. 8) sets up the final weekend of the regular season at home against Iona (Nov. 14) and Manhattan (Nov. 15). The Bobcats will celebrate Senior Day against the Jaspers on that Sunday.
After enjoying the 2014 MAAC Tournament from the friendly confines of the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, the 2015 MAAC Tournament will be held at the site of the No. 1 seed. This year's MAAC Tournament will feature to top six seeds from the regular season play with the quarterfinals taking place on Friday, Nov. 20; the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 21; and the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 22. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
