No. 1 seed QU Women's Tennis Advances to MAAC Championship with 4-0 Sweep of No. 4 seed Marist

West Windsor, New Jersey – The No. 1 seed Quinnipiac women's tennis team swept the No. 4 seed Marist Red Foxes 4-0 Saturday afternoon in the MAAC Women's Tennis Semifinals to clinch a spot in championship match on Sunday afternoon against the No. 2 seed Niagara Purple Eagles.

Quinnipiac extends its winning streak against MAAC opponents in conference matches to 19 straight since joining the league prior to the 2013-14 season. The Bobcats are now 13-8 this season and are just one win away from tying the program record of 14 wins set during the 2010-11 season when the team finished 14-9. Marist finishes their season with a 5-13 record.

This marks the fifth straight season the Bobcats have played in a conference championship match as they played in the NEC Championship match during the 2011-13 seasons and have now played in the MAAC Champions in two straight seasons since joining the league. During the stretch, the Bobcats won the NEC Championship in 2011 and the MAAC Championship last season in 2014.

Jacqueline Raynor (Garden City, New York) extended her winning streak to 22 straight matches as she and Michelle Dassa (Marlboro, New Jersey) teamed up for a doubles victory to start the match. Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) clinched the match for the Bobcats with her third consecutive singles victory.

Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) and Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida) got the match off to a great start as they cruised to the first win of the day with a doubles victory over Katie Seitz and Elizabeth Brozovich, 8-2 with their fourth straight win together. The Bobcats then clinched the first point of the match as Raynor and Dassa eased past Karly Pang and Claire Schmitz, 8-1, with their 10th straight doubles victory together to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead over Marist.

Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Horton were winning 5-2 over Nikki Rohan and Callie Morlock before their match was unfinished with the doubles point already clinched for the Bobcats.

Young was the first singles match complete on the afternoon as she breezed to the straight set win

Three singles matches went unfinished with the sweep as Dzulynsky had defeated Pang in the firstset but was down in the second set when they match was finished, 6-4, 3-5. Raynor had lost the first set but was dominating in the second set, 4-6, 5-1, when they match was won while Launie had lost in the first set and was down in the second, 3-6, 2-3.over Rohan at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Finishing just behind Young was Dassa at No. 5 singles as she allowed just two points to Seitz, winning 6-0, 6-2 in straight sets. Horton followed with the clinching point for the Bobcats to seal the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Morlock.
