Quinnipiac Women’s Soccer Freshman Nadya Gill Named MAAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

EDISON, New Jersey – Quinnipiac women's soccer freshman forward Nadya Gill (Toronto, Ontario) was named the MAAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, August 31.

Gill's Offensive Player of the Week Award is the first of her career after completing her first week of competition in a Quinnipiac uniform. Gill is the first Quinnipiac women's soccer weekly award winner since Natalia Grodzki (Bartlett, Illinois) was named the Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2013, most recently on Oct. 28, 2013. Gill is also the first offensive player to be named Player of the Week since Kemesha Woodfine on Sept. 4, 2012 and the first rookie to be named Player of the Week since Furtuna Velaj on Oct. 6, 2008, both awards coming when the Bobcats were still a member of the Northeast Conference.

Gill's first week was one for the record books as she scored two of Quinnipiac's four goals during the week, including both game-winning goals for the Bobcats. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Holy Cross Crusaders in the season-opener to give the Bobcats a 2-1 victory before scoring the game-winner with 17:03 remaining in the second half at Delaware St. in a 2-0 victory.

The history continued for Gill, as she is the first Bobcat freshman since Jessica Fontaine (Enfield, Connecticut) to score two game-winning goals in the 2013 season and is the first freshman since Furtuna Velaj in the 2008 season to record at least two goals and two game-winning goals in her first two career games as a Bobcat.

Quinnipiac women's soccer returns to action this week in the TD Bank Classic at Virtue Field in Burlington, Vermont where they will face the New Hampshire Wildcats Friday at 1:30 P.M. and the Vermont Catamounts on Sunday at 1:30 P.M.
