HAMDEN, Conn. – The 2015 Women's Soccer World Cup is underway, and with it comes publications from all over. Quinnipiac Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Clarke lent a hand with one in particular, adding insight to the Summer Edition of "Our Game Magazine" – a periodical that highlights women's soccer across the globe.
The Summer 2015 issue of "Our Game Magazine" is all about the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. The issue includes team previews, original artwork, interviews, and features. Clarke specifically helped preview Australia and New Zealand – currently ranked No. 10 and No. 17 in the world, respectively. Clarke highlighted each team's strengths, key players and what they need to do well in order to succeed in the tournament.
The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup is the seventh FIFA Women's World Cup, the quadrennial international women's soccer world championship tournament. In March 2011, Canada won the right to host the event, the first time the country will host the tournament and the third time it has been in North America. The tournament began on June 6 and will finish on July 5.
The 2015 tournament saw the World Cup expanded to 24 teams from 16 in 2011. Canada received direct entry as hosts, and a qualification tournament of 134 teams was held for the remaining 23 places. With the expanded tournament, eight teams made their Women's World Cup debut at the 2015 tournament. All previous Women's World Cup finalists qualified for the tournament, with established nations Germany, Japan, and the United States all among the pre-tournament favorites.
