Quinnipiac Women’s Rugby Announces 2015 Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's rugby head coach Becky Carlson has announced the team's schedule for the upcoming 2015 season.

The Bobcats' 10-game docket arguably represents the most difficult slate in program history. The schedule consists of five games against teams that appeared in last season's ACRA Tournament and six games that will be played on the road. The other four will be played at the QU Rugby Field, highlighted by the home finale against Army.

Quinnipiac begins the season on the road, playing its first two games away from Hamden. The Bobcats travel to Ohio to take on the College of Notre Dame on Sept. 1 (12 p.m.) in the season-opener, followed by a trip to West Point, New York to face Army on Sept. 12 (12 p.m.). The College of Notre Dame posted an 11-1 record last season, winning the ARCA Division II Tournament in December. A more familiar opponent to the Bobcats, Army finished with a 21-11 record last year but suffered two of those losses in games against Quinnipiac.

The 2015 home-opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 19 (12 p.m.) when Quinnipiac hosts Dartmouth at the QU Rugby Field. The Dartmouth women's rugby program was elevated to Division I status as the Big Green's 35th varsity sport for the 2015-16 academic year. Katie Dowty was announced as the new head coach, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.

The most challenging portion of the schedule comes on Sept. 26 (12 p.m.) when the Bobcats head up to Norwich Academy. Norwich posted a 15-2 record in 2014-15, advancing to the ACRA Division I Tournament Championship. Quinnipiac seeks revenge after a loss to the Cadets last season, a 45-38 defeat on Sept. 27, 2014 in Hamden.

Quinnipiac will host two of its next three games, taking on Life University on Oct. 3 (12 p.m.) and Central Washington on Oct. 17 (12 p.m.) - both at the QU Rugby Field. The Bobcats defeated the Running Eagles, 34-19, in the 2014 season-opener, but fell to Central Washington, 22-17, at the end of October.

In between the two home games, Quinnipiac travels to Brown University on Oct. 10 (11 a.m.) to face the Bears at Marvel Field. Brown finished the 2014-15 season with an 11-2-1 record, going 7-0-1 in the Ivy Rugby Conference to win the title. Quinnipiac and Brown met in the 2014 ACRA Regional Final, in which Quinnipiac was victorious, 46-20.

Two of the final three regular season games will be played on the road for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac travels to American International on Oct. 22 (6 p.m.), plays host to Army on Oct. 31 (12 p.m.) and concludes the season with a trip to West Chester on Nov. 7 (12 p.m.). The home finale against Army will serve as Senior Day in Hamden, recognizing the senior class members for their hard work and dedication to the program.

The playoffs start one week later on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015.
