Paula Strautmane Leads Latvia U18 National Team to Runner-Up Finish at 2015 FIBA Women’s Division B Championship

BUCHAREST, Romania – Paula Strautmane (Mucenieki, Latvia) and the Latvia U-18 National Team rolled to a runner-up finish at the 2015 FIBA Women's Division B Championship held in Romania. Strautmane helped guide Latvia to an undefeated run through the first seven games of the tournament before her team fell to the Slovak Republic, 49-45, in the Championship game. Despite the loss in the title game, Latvia's run into the finals earns a promotion into the Division A group (top tier) for the 2016 FIBA U18 Championships.

Set out with a goal to earn a promotion into the top flight division, Strautmane was one of the top all-around players in the tournament as she posted an impressive stat line that included 10.9 points on 48.7 percent shooting from the floor with 7.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals in 25.3 minutes per game across the eight-game tournament run.

Strautmane, whose experience with Latvia's National Teams dates back to the 2013 FIBA U16 Championships, finished the tournament ranked tied for 21st among all players in scoring, 5th in field goal percentage, tied for 18th in rebounds and 5th in assists despite ranking 45th in minutes.

The impressive run through the U18 Championships mimics the same success Strautmane displayed just one month prior while starring for Latvia's U20 National Team at the U20 Championships held in Spain. At the U20 tournament, Strautmane tied for the team-lead with 10.8 points per game (t-21st in tournament) while also contributing 41.8 percent shooting from the floor (9th), 81.8 free throw percentage (5th), 6.4 rebounds per game (t-20th) and 1.8 assists per game (t-31st) in 27.4 minutes per game (t-32nd).

Sunday's results wraps up the international competition for Strautmane over the summer as she will take the next few weeks to rest and prepare for the trip overseas where she awaits the start of the school year and the 2015-16 season for the Quinnipiac Bobcats.
