HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac University men's cross country head coach Carolyn Matin has announced the Bobcats' 2015 schedule. Quinnipiac's slate for the upcoming fall season will feature five meets leading up to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 31.
"We do have quite talented young teams and I really do think both teams are going to be able to do extremely well," Martin said. "I think we have a really high chance at placing well at the regional championships and we have some big goals for both teams."
Quinnipiac follows its season-opener with a first-time appearance at the Rider Invitational from Rosedale Park in Pennington, New Jersey. The meet is an important one for the Bobcats as the team will be getting their first glimpse at the site of the course which will host the 2015 MAAC Championship in late October.
The Bobcats travel to Lehigh University for the annual Paul Short Invitational on Oct. 2. Last year, the men excelled with a program record 3rd place finish out of 40 teams in the Men's Brown meet at the Paul Short Run. The landmark achievement bested a previous program record 6th place from the 2009 Paul Short Invitational while five of the Bobcats' top seven runners placed in the Top 50 overall.
Saturday, Oct. 10 sees Quinnipiac heading to Franklin Park in Boston for the New England Championships. Last season proved successful for Martin's Bobcats as they placed 13th out of 39 teams for the highest finishing spot for Quinnipiac at the New England Championships since Oct. 11, 2008 when the Bobcats finished 11th. Headlining the Bobcats' effort was Brendan Copley who placed 25th out of a crowded field of 262 competitors.
The Bobcats wrap-up the regular season at the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 23. Last year, Quinnipiac placed 8th out of 19 teams at the event.
Quinnipiac will compete in its third MAAC Championship from Rosedale Park on Saturday, Oct. 31. Last season, the men's program placed 3rd in the 11-team field, a marked improvement from the Bobcats' 7th place finish in 2013. All five Bobcats placed in the Top 27 overall with Copley standing tall crossing the line in 14th place, earning an All-MAAC individual honor.
The NCAA Northeast Regional returns to Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Nov. 13 as the Bobcats look to better their 18th place finish out of 39 teams at the 2014 NCAA Regional. In 2014, Copley again led the way placing 84th overall while Quinnipiac's 18th place result represents the Bobcats' best showing in an NCAA Regional since 2009 when Quinnipiac picked up an 18th place finish.
