HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald and Director of Tennis/Women's Tennis Head Coach Paula Miller have announced that Interim Men's Tennis Head Coach Chris Pappas has been promoted to Men's Tennis Head Coach.
"I am really excited and honored for the opportunity," Pappas said. "I have great respect for the tradition and standards Coach Q has raised this program to and look forward to the challenge of building on the success."
As the Interim Head Coach this past season, Pappas led the Bobcats to their first winning season since the 2009-10 campaign. Quinnipiac finished 11-10 overall and 5-2 in conference play – claiming third place in the regular season to advance to the MAAC Championships in April.
"I'm extremely excited to have Chris Pappas continue coaching our men's tennis program," Miller said. "Chris did an incredible job this year as he coached the team to third place in the MAAC and was named Coach of the Year. He really helped in the process of developing his players and taking their game to another level. I'm genuinely excited for him and appreciate all he has done for the program. His consistent work ethic and passion for tennis will maintain the program's standard for excellence."
Under his tutelage, Kei Ezaka (Ojai, California), Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany), Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey), Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) were all named to the MAAC Second Team. In addition, Kuwert, Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Ben Teicher (Kendall Park, New Jersey) were each named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Pappas' men's tennis coach of the year selection was the first for Quinnipiac since 2009-10. The Bobcats were in the NEC and former head coach Mike Quitko was named the 2010 NEC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. The MAAC Coach of the Year award for Pappas was the first in program history.
