Eric Ambrosio Sets Single-Season Program Record for Wins with 39th Victory in QU Men's Tennis 6-1 Win vs. Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – Quinnipiac men's tennis senior Eric Ambrosio (Lloyd Harbor, New York) set the new single-season program record for wins with his 39th victory of the season in the Bobcats 6-1 win over the Saint Peter's Peacocks Friday afternoon at the SPU Tennis Courts.

Ambrosio broke the previous record of 38 which was set by Brian Mikkelson in 2008 and tied by John Hughes in 2009 and James Kwei in 2011. Ambrosio improves his record to 39-21 this season with his win in doubles. Ambrosio now owns the program records for single-season wins and career singles wins, is second in program history in wins and is just two wins away from tying the single-season singles program record. Last season, Ambrosio recorded 23 singles wins, which is good for second all-time.

Jonas Kuwert (Jesteberg, Germany) and Luke Roser (Bernardsville, New Jersey) each picked up a pair of victories for the Bobcats in the 6-1 win over the Peacocks as the two won in No. 1 doubles before each winning their respective singles matches. Roser reached the 75-win mark with the doubles and also reached the 30 win mark this season, the first time he has reached 30 wins. Kuwert won his 31st and 32nd matches of the season with his pair of wins.

Overall, five different Bobcats have recorded at least 30 wins this season. With the win over the Peacocks, the Bobcats have now won six consecutive matches as they improve to 11-7 (5-0 MAAC) to stay perfect in conference play while the Peacocks fall to 5-14 (1-5 MAAC).

Kuwert and Roser started off the match on a high note for the Bobcats as the duo cruised to an 8-2 victory in No. 1 doubles over Carlos Carrera and Daniil Ivanov, 8-2. Ambrosio and Willem van Biezen (Warmond, The Netherlands) won their sixth consecutive match of the season together in an 8-4 win over Jorge Rodriguez and Oliver Bellomi in No. 2 doubles. Sebastian Barbero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Ryoma Haraguchi (New York, New York) won their match by default with only five players listed in the lineup for Saint Peter's.

Roser was the first one off the court for the Bobcats as he eased to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 4 singles over Bellomi for his 31st win of the season. Julian Rozenstein (Marlboro, New Jersey) was not too far behind Roser in leaving the court, as he won his 32nd match of the season 6-2, 6-4 over Rodriguez. Kyle Alper (Dix Hills, New York) continued his impressive freshman season with his 22nd victory in singles and 28th overall as he played No. 5 singles and won in straight sets over Jonathon Paredes, 6-4, 6-4. Kuwert picked up the final played match victory with a three-set win at No. 1 singles over Carrera, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Barbero was listed as the No. 6 but won by default with no one listed for the Peacocks.

Ambrosio lost in singles to snap an 11 match individual winning streak after picking up the doubles win earlier in the match. Ambrosio competed at No. 2 singles but fell to Ivanov, 7-5, 6-3 after nearly forcing a tiebreaker in the first set.
