HAMDEN, Conn. - Freshman Dylan Webster (Brampton, Ontario) scored twice, but the Quinnipiac University men's lacrosse team was defeated by Harvard, 14-7, Tuesday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field. With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-5, while the Crimson improves to 7-4.
Kevin Kelly (Redding, Conn.), Christian Haggerty (West Nyack, N.Y.) and Billy Alessi (Branford, Conn.) had a goal and an assist each, while Jack Oppenheimer (Conshohocken, Pa.) and Mike Gast (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored once each. Jake Emms (Victoria, British Columbia) and Grant Marston (Duxbury, Mass.) also tallied assists for the Bobcats.
Jeff Cohen led Harvard with three goals, while Dean Gibbons had a goal and three assists. Daniel Eipp and Matt Hull also had two goals each, with Eipp adding an assist.
Kevin Benzing (Severna Park, Md.) made nine saves in defeat for the Bobcats, while Harry Krieger got the win for Harvard, making seven saves.
After a scoreless first six minutes of play, the teams exchanged goals at the 8:50 and 7:28 marks of the first quarter. Gibbons scored first for Harvard, before Oppenheimer countered for the Bobcats. Hull put Harvard on top 12 seconds later and the Crimson never trailed again.
The game remained within reach into the third quarter, when Kelly scored to cut the Crimson lead to 6-4 with just under six minutes remaining in the stanza. But 21 seconds later, Ryan Stevens' unassisted goal sparked a 6-0 Harvard run to put the game out of reach. The Crimson took an eight-goal lead, 12-4, and the Bobcats never got closer than to within seven goals the rest of the way.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, when they play a pivotal Northeast Conference contest against Mount St. Mary's. Opening face-off from the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
