QU Men's Ice Hockey Student-Athletes Participate In NHL Development Camps

Quinnipiac men's ice hockey will send five student-athletes to NHL Development Camps this summer with Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland) and Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia ) participating in the New York Islanders camp, while Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) will head to the Montreal Canadiens camp, Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia ) will be with the Boston Bruins and Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) will partake in the Winnipeg Jets camp.

Anas – a second team All-American after a spectacular sophomore season – had previously competed in the Washington Capitals camp in 2014. Anas after earned national accolades last year after scoring 23 goals and assisting on 16 more for a team-high 39 points and heads into his junior year with 45 goals and 37 assists for 83 points in 78 career games. Toews will make his second appearance with the Islanders this summer. He was previously drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Islanders after a notable freshman campaign in 2013-14. Toews led all Quinnipiac defensemen in goals (4) while assisting on 16 more and was one of six 20-point scorers in the Bobcats' line-up.

ECAC Hockey Third Team goalie Michael Garteig earned an invitation to the Boston Bruins camp with his second-straight 20-win season that also saw the Bobcats' netminder break the single-season (5) and career (11) shutout records. Garteig was 22-10-3 as a junior in 2014-15 with a .917 save percentage and a 2.03 goals-against average and was a candidate for the Mike Richter Award given to college hockey's top goaltender. He'll head into his final season at Quinnipiac with a record of 46-21-9 (.664 winning percentage) with a .913 save percentage and a 1.99 GAA for his career .

After earning ECAC Hockey All-Rookie honors after a brilliant first year with the Bobcats, Landon Smith got the nod from the Winnipeg Jets to attend their camp this summer. Former Quinnipiac Bobcats Matthew Peca and Jeremy Langlois are also attending camps. Peca signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Apr. 1, and recently led the team's 3 vs. 3 tournament in goals (10) on the way to the tourney championship. Langlois recently signed a pro deal with the San Jose Sharks after starring for the team's AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, last season.
