Former Quinnipiac men's ice hockey captain Matthew Peca led Team East to the Tampa Bay Lightning's 3-on-3 tournament championship at the team's development camp. Peca led all Lightning skaters with 10 goals in the tournament.
Peca's 10 goals came on 19 shots-on-goal for a camp-best 52.6%. Peca scored twice in the tournament's championship game, including the game-winner, and logged the second-most points (17) of any player at the camp.
Peca was drafted by the Lightning in the 2011 NHL Draft prior to joining the Bobcats. After a four-year career at Quinnipiac, Peca signed a two-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay on Apr. 1, 2015. Peca suited up for eight games with the Syracuse Crunch - the AHL affiliate of the Lightning. He scored once and assisted on three more goals, including a goal and an assist in a playoff series.
Peca's Quinnipiac career came to end with the Bobcats' third-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and the most wins for a four-year career (97) in program history.
In his time at Quinnipiac, Peca scored 42 goals and assisted on 101 more for 143 career points. He became just the fourth player in program history to record 100 career assists and currently sixth in career points.
This past season, Peca scored seven goals while dishing out a team-high 29 assists for 36 points to become just the fourth All-ECAC Hockey First Team selection since Quinnipiac joined the league in 2005-06. He is also one of four players in the team's history to reach 30 points in each of his four seasons at Quinnipiac.
