HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's basketball team demonstrated its commitment to Community Service on Friday afternoon, as the Bobcats took a trip over to West Woods Elementary School to speak to the sixth grade class about the importance of education.
Spearheaded by Quinnipiac Assistant Coach Sean Doherty, Director of Basketball Operations Mike Papale, senior Giovanni McLean (Bronx, N.Y.), junior Alain Chigha (Yaoundé, Cameroon) and sophomore Samuel Dingba (Yaoundé, Cameroon) each attended the event.
"It's always fun interacting with elementary students around the area," said Chigha. "I think we enjoy their company as much as they enjoy ours."
Right before recess, the class broke up into two separate groups where Chigha and Dingba spoke to one while McLean and Papale spoke to the other. Chigha and Dingba informed the students about their background and how they ended up at Quinnipiac to study and play basketball. McLean did the same, while Papale told his story about going into Sudden Cardiac Arrest back in 2006. They switched in between and answered any questions that the youngsters had. After that, recess began and McLean, Chigha and Dingba played games with the class.
