QU Baseball Ranked No. 5 in Latest NEIBA Poll for First Time Since 2007

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac baseball team was ranked No. 5 in the latest New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Poll, released on Monday, May 18. It is the first time the Bobcats have been ranked since the 2007 season when they climbed as high as No. 1 in New England

Previously this season, the Bobcats had received votes in four consecutive polls from April 13 to May 4 before falling out of the poll last week. Before this season, the Bobcats had only received votes one poll in each of the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

In the final weekend of the regular season, the Bobcats split a pair of doubleheaders with the NJIT Highlanders. The Bobcats won 5-1 and lost 6-1 on Friday, May 15 and won 11-6 and lost 13-7 on Saturday, May 16.

Sophomore Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) extended his season-best hit streak to 22 games, one shy of the program's Division I record of 23 games set by Toby Peterson in the 2000 season. Batten went 6 for 13 at the dish on his way to extending the hitting streak.

Senior Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Connecticut) added to his list of accolades this weekend as he claimed sole possession of first place in the program record books with 49, breaking a tie with former Bobcat great Tim Binkoski's 47 when he finished his career in 2007.

Junior Mike Palladino also continued to move up the Quinnipiac record books as he stole his 23rd and 24th bases of the season, good for the third most in a single-season in Quinnipiac baseball history, and the most in the program's Division I history. In his career, Palladino now has 35 stolen bases which ranks fourth in program history and first in the Division I era.

The Bobcats begin the MAAC Tournament on Wednesday, May 20 as they No. 3 seed when they open up the tournament with a 12 P.M. showdown with the No. 6 seed Marist Red Foxes at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York. If the Bobcats win, they will face the No. 2 seed Canisius Golden Griffins on Thursday, May 21 at 12 P.M. If Quinnipiac falls to Marist, the Bobcats will face the loser of the game between the No. 4 Siena Saints and No. 5 Monmouth Hawks on Thursday at 3:30 P.M.
