QU Baseball Receives Votes in NEIBA Poll for Third Straight Week

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team has received votes in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Poll for the third consecutive week, the first time in program history they have received votes in three consecutive weeks.

This week, the Bobcats are the first team listed under the receiving votes category. Leading all Division I points was Connecticut, who received all five first place votes. Boston College was ranked second with 39 points followed by Dartmouth with 28 points at No. 3. Northeastern and Rhode Island are ranked No. 4 and 5 with 13 points and 11 points, respectively.

The Bobcats went 3-2 last week including a mid-week doubleheader sweep of the Albany Great Danes on Tuesday, April 21. Currently, Quinnipiac is 20-20 with an 11-7 record in MAAC play. This month, the Bobcats are 13-7 with a 7-5 record in conference play.

In the MAAC standings, the Bobcats are currently third in the conference with their league-high 11 wins. Rider is currently in first with a 9-3 record with a .750 winning percentage followed by Siena in second place at 8-4 and a .667 winning percentage.

Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, New Jersey) posted a .438 batting average for the Bobcats with a pair of doubles, four runs scored and three RBI. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) was just behind Donaghue with a .381 batting average and a team-high eight hits. Batten also scored four runs, drove in five RBIs and stole a pair of bases.

The Bobcats return to action with a pair of midweek contests when they host the Hartford Hawks at 3 P.M. on Tuesday, April 28 at the QU Baseball Field before traveling to Amherst, Massachusetts to face the Massachusetts Minutemen at Earl Lorden Field with first pitch scheduled for 3 P.M.
