Quinnipiac Athletics recognized three student-athletes that earned Scholar Athlete recognition at the 2015 Quinnipiac University Senior Awards Ceremony on Saturday, Apr. 25. Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athlete Casey Block and women's soccer standout Angela Ellison were named Senior Female Scholar Athletes while baseball's Matthew Lorenzetti earned Senior Male Scholar Athlete Honors.
In addition to Block, Ellison and Lorenzetti, men's lacrosse's Gregory Pendergast, men's basketball's Marquis Barnett and Justin Harris and men's ice hockey's Tom Hilbrich were also honored by Quinnipiac's College of Arts and Sciences and School of Business. Harris and field hockey's Megan Conaboy were also honored with the Outstanding Senior Award by Student Affairs.
Quinnipiac Director of Athletics & Recreation Jack McDonald announced Block, Ellison and Lorenzetti as the Athletic Department's Senior Scholar Athletes before they were officially recognized by Quinnipiac University President John Lahey and Executive Vice President and Provost Mark Thompson. The Athletics & Recreation Scholar Athlete Award is presented to a letter-winner(s) who has given extra effort for the athletic department, shown strength of character and high academic average, and was a valuable member of her or his team.
Barnett was recognized by Dean Robert Smart of the College of Arts and Sciences with the Special Achievement Award. The award is given to the graduating senior in the College of Arts and Sciences who has a record of exceptional achievement in the face of adversity. The award was established in honor of Morris Woskow, former professor of psychologyand dean.
Pendergast was then recognized by Smart with the first Matt Rafferty Memorial Student Achievement Award in Economics, given to a student majoring in economics who has shown outstanding academic achievement and contributed significantly to the department.
School of Business Dean Matthew O'Connor then recognized Harris and Hilbrich. Harris was presented the Management Department Award which is earned by a senior, majoring or minoring in management, for outstanding performance on projects related to personal and career development. Hilbrich's was recognized as the University's top marketing student, earning the Marketing Department Student Achievement Award which is presented to a student possessing expertise in marketing who has made contributions to the field and the marketing department.
Student Affairs Vice President and Dean of Students Monique Drucker then presented the Outstanding Senior Award to Harris and Conaboy. The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes seniors with a 3.0 GPA or better for service, dedication and contributions to Quinnipiac throughout their four years.
