Women's outdoor track and field junior Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Connecticut) was named Quinnipiac's May Female Athlete of the Month.
Quinnipiac’s 2014-15 Female Athlete of the Year Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Connecticut) added to her incredible season with a trip to the NCAA East Regionals, making her just the second Bobcat in program history to compete at an NCAA Regional event. Competing in the 400m dash, Samuels placed 47th at the NCAA East Regional held in Jacksonville as she also became the first Quinnipiac track and field sprinter to compete at the NCAAs.
Earlier in the month, Samuels added to her incredible season with a 1st place finish in the 200m dash at the MAAC Championship, cruising to her fifth career MAAC Championship victory and second in the 20m as she bested the 2nd place competitor by a significant margin of 0.64 seconds. Samuels also pitched in two more times at the MAAC Championships as she finished as the 100m runner-up and helped the 4x400m relay team place 2nd overall which is good enough for the best finish in the 4x400m relay at a conference championship in program history.
The impressive month for Samuels continued in the 400m dash at the New England Championships as she legged out a new outdoor program record time of 53.88 seconds to take 2nd place overall in the finals. She bested her previous outdoor program record of 54.11 seconds by a wide margin and finished runner-up to Merrimack’s USTFCCCA First Team All-American Carly Muscaro.
