Quinnipiac Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Golf Teams Recognized for NCAA Public Recognition Award

EDISON, NJ – The Quinnipiac University women’s cross country and women’s golf teams were recognized by the NCAA for their multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) and were named recipients of the NCAA Public Recognition Award.

Each year, the NCAA honors select Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

The NCAA has honored more than 1,100 Division I sports teams for top scores in the classroom. The 1,124 teams publicly recognized for high achievement represent 696 women’s teams and 428 men’s or mixed squads, the highest ever in the decade since the NCAA began the Public Recognition Awards program. In 2014, 1,049 teams were recognized, marking an increase this year of 75 teams.

“We congratulate each of the teams and individual student-athletes for their dedication to academic success,” said NCAA President Mark Emmert. “This achievement demonstrates their hard work and the commitment of NCAA member schools to provide students with an opportunity to succeed academically and athletically.”

In all, 40 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) teams were recognized by the NCAA.

“The MAAC brand is about excellence in athletics and academics, and the success reflected in these NCAA Public Recognition Awards is a credit to the student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators that provide the needed environment to achieve,” notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Congratulations to all the student-athletes and the schools that are providing them the tools for success in college and in life.”
